In Sussex County, Delaware the Milton Fire
Department now runs this PL Custom Medallion
Type III ambulance. Built on a 2010 Ford
E-450 chassis, the body features a custom
interior layout that was custom-built to meet
the department's requirements.
The Medallion 170" body has 72" of interior
headroom features a unique interior design
that incorporates a streetside squad bench and a
double-wide seat on the curbside. At
the head of the curbside seating area is a
custom three drawer storage unit.
Additional storage is provided behind the
backrests of the streetside squad.
All together there are 24 Whelen LED warning lights
located throughout the vehicle. In
addition there is a Whelen 700 Series red LED
light mounted on the interior of the curbside and both
rear entry doors. Each rear facing body
compartment door is equipped with a 4" amber LED
flashing light as well. The DOT marker
lights on the body consist of Whelen OS LED
lights.
On top of the cab roof is a Golight 2020
remote-control spotlight with controls located
on the center console. To aide the
driver when making reverse moves, Innovative
Lighting 580 Series backup lights were installed
on each side behind the rear wheels. There
is also a backup camera above the rear doors
that is wired to a ceiling-mounted monitor in
the cab.
There are several features inside the module
that are designed to enhance crew safety.
Over the rear entry doors are several of LED
lights. Mounted in the center position is
a red LED light that illuminates when the driver
is applying the vehicle's brakes. On each
side of that is a pair of amber LED lights.
Each light will flash when the respective turn
signal on that side is activated to warn the
crew of an impending turn. In addition
there is also a forward facing camera mounted
over the rear entry doors that allows the driver
to monitor actions in the patient compartment as
needed.
Additional features include On-Spot automatic
tire chains, Whelen LED dome lights, Zico Eze-Load
oxygen tank lift, PIAA fog lights, and a
heavy-duty liner coating in the exterior
compartments.
