The Baden Volunteer Fire Department located in
eastern Prince George's County has taken
delivery of a new brush truck from
DPC Emergency Equipment. Built on a 2009
Ford F-350 4x4 chassis, the unit is designated
Brush 36.
In the bed is a skid unit consisting of a Hale
HPX100 high-pressure water pump powered by a
20-horsepower Honda gasoline engine. The
pump is supplied by a 150-gallon UPF water tank
which feeds a 1-1/2" x (2) 1-1/2" NST male gated
wye with cap and chains. DPC
fabricated and installed a pump operator's
panel.
Custom-fabricated storage boxes made from 1/8"
aluminum treadplate are located on each side of
the bed. The compartments feature gas
struts to hold the doors open and LED rope
lighting to evenly illuminate the compartments
at night. While the driver's side
compartment holds tools and misc. equipment, the
right side carries hose and features a
protective tarp that unfolds to protect the body
paint from scratches. At the front of the
compartments on each side is a Fire Research
Optimum 150-watt, 12-volt HID quartz lights
mounted on telescoping poles.
The cab interior features a center console that
was custom-fabricated and sprayed with black
LINE-X. It holds (2) cup holders and also
has a rear storage area for map books and
binders. The extended cab area was
overlaid with aluminum treadplate for gear and
equipment storage. Two (2) Streamlight
handlights w/chargers are mounted on the rear
wall. In addition, a Firecom vehicle
intercom system was installed with a headset for
each seating position.
A combination of Code 3 and Whelen warning
lights were used throughout the truck. The
cab lightbar consists of a Code 3 RX 2700 LED
lightbar which includes alley and takedown
lights. Four (4) Whelen 500 Series red
Super-LED lights were installed as the front and
rear intersection warning lights.
